Is a treatment, of any kind, always appropriate?
No, there are many contraindications that would stop me from treating you. This is why I get you to fill out the the consultation form before I begin your treatment. I ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to treatment. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are prescribed. If you are under a doctor’s care I may recommend that you seek your doctors permission before any treatment.
Where will my treatment take place?
Your treatment will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room at my premises or in your own home. You lie on a comfortable couch if having any treatment other than Indian Head Massage as this treatment takes place sitting in a chair.
What should I wear for the treatment?
For a full body massage you are required to undress to your underwear. I give you privacy to undress, and you are covered with a towel at all times apart from the area being treated. For Indian Head massage and Reiki you do not have to undress as the treatment is given whilst you are fully clothed.
What happens before my first treatment?
I will require you to fill out a confidential consultation form.
I will then ask you general questions to enable me to ascertain what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions I need to be aware of and to decide if treatment chosen is correct one for you.
What happens during my treatment?
To begin I will place my hands on your back, on top of the towels, to help you to relax. I begin by warming the muscles to help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, I will increase the pressure to aid muscular tension. Carrier oil is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing friction to the skin. Please ask questions or mention if you feel discomfort so I am aware and can use another technique as appropriate.
What do I do during a treatment?
New clients who have never had a massage before may worry about what they will do/feel during the massage. My answer to you is to make yourself comfortable, close your eyes, relax, and enjoy the treatment. You may find you want to talk -that’s fine and is up to you if you feel this will make you relax and enjoy the treatment. Throughout the treatment please feel free to ask questions.
How long will a treatment last?
This really depends on the particular therapy you are having. For example a full-body massage can last roughly one hour, neck and shoulders, about half an hour. Indian Head massage last approximately 45 – 55 minutes. A Reiki session lasts one hour as does Hopi ear candling. When you book a treatment we can then discuss times.
How will I feel after the treatment?
Most people feel relaxed, free from aches and pains which come from tension or stress. You may feel tired but then may experience increased energy levels and be more aware, which can last for many days. As toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage treatment, I recommended you drink plenty of water after.
Could therapy treatments replace my prescribed medicine?
No, but they may compliment them. If you are under medical care, I require you check with your doctor before undergoing any complimentary therapy. Never change/stop medication without the advise of your GP.
